I've got a lot to be thankful for on this Mother's Day. A house, a car, an awesome job and a mother who really loves me. Also, I've recently discovered the greatest television channel in the history of..........er..........television channels. It's called Current. I get it through my DirecTV. If you've seen this channel then you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't..........well..........I'm sorry. You should check 'em out at wwww.current.tv .
So, in honor of my mother and my love for her and also for my ever-growing love for the Current T.V. channel, I present this video:
Life's brought a lot of changes for me over the past couple of years. Some good and some bad. But the recently things have really been looking up...
I'm now officially moved in and living in my brand-new house! People, I can't begin to tell you how great it is to own your very own house...I recommend it to everyone. My mortgage is low, the neighborhood is great.......and did I mention that I'm living by myself? Yes ladies and gentlemen, after years of having more than my fill of roommates, I've finally got a place all to myself! It is totally awesome!
I just finished my first week at my new job as well...I'm on staff at First Wesleyan Church here in T-town. Right now I'm the assistant youth pastor but starting in June I'll be the main youth pastor because the present youth pastor is taking over the college ministry. It's really good. The church environment is so laid back and everyone is so nice! They allow you to grow in a family-like atmosphere with incredible bible-based teaching without the disposition of ramming "personal theology" and "personal conviction" down your throat. They let you "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" without being legalistic. They also help you grow in your personal walk with Christ. Our staff meeting devotional today was on Ecclesiastes 5. It really confirmed in my heart what I'd been feeling in my personal walk with Christ lately. I recommend Ecclesiastes 5 as a personal reading to everyone!
And unless you've been under a rock somewhere, you've probably heard that Alabama has gotten a new head football coach by the name of Nick Saban. I attended the spring practice game (A.K.A. The A-Day Game) this past Saturday. There were over 92,000+ fans there. There were SO many people there, they actually had to close the gates because the stadium reached well over full capacity! Bryant-Denny Stadium seats 92,138 at full capacity. So when all the seats were filled, people began to stand and watch from the upper-deck ramps. And when the ramps were filled with people they finally closed the gates to the stadium. Let me tell you folks, the atmosphere in Bryant-Denny Stadium was electric...
So, here's to new beginnings in all facets of life.
That's right ladies and gentlemen, I'm a full grown adult now. I went out and got approved for a mortgage (at a great interest rate I might add) and within a week or two I'll be moving in to my new home!!! I went through the actual builder of the house instead of going through a realtor. And by doing that I saved myself about $3,000! I'm closing on the house this Wednesday (FOR SURE THIS TIME) FINALLY, NO MORE DELAYS!!! Bob, the builder, (CAN HE BUILD IT? YES HE CAN!) is a great guy. He's paying $4,000 of the closing costs and giving me an $850 allowance for kitchen appliances, which isn't a ton of money when talking about stoves, dishwashers and refrigerators, but it's better than nothing!
It's about 1300 sq. ft. (which is plenty of room for just myself) with a great big yard and a two-car garage. There's only a couple of small, minor things left to do in the house itself. Otherwise It's ready to go!
Kevin Hyche, a good friend of mine and youth pastor at my old home church, was killed last Friday morning on I-20/59 (a stretch of interstate that runs from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham). He worked for Stanley Steamer (a local carpet cleaning company). He was in the passenger side of a Stanley Steamer van when he and the driver (who, fortunately, was able to walk away from the accident) came upon another accident on the interstate and couldn't stop quickly enough, hitting an 18-wheeler.
I had the honor of knowing Kevin for a few years. He was engaged to an incredible young lady named Jessica Lankford and they planned to move to Florida this summer so he could attend seminary at South Eastern Bible College.
Kevin was loud, outspoken, stubborn, and adamant about most things, especially his faith. He made corny jokes, did silly things, and was hairy like a monkey. He couldn’t sing, never really figured out how to strum a guitar, but he did both anyway. He dressed and decorated better than most people I know. He cared for all people, served all people, and wanted the best for all people. He loved God, life, and his friends and made every effort to show it. He’ll be missed terribly. I know that my life is forever changed by the loss of Kevin. I'll be honest the past few days have been really tough.
I don't usually ask for this kinda stuff but if you can find some time, please pray for his family and friends, especially his mom. He was all she had. And pray for Jessica as well. She's lost the love of her life.
I had the weirdest dream last night. Now, I don't normally write about my dreams on here because they're usually not PG and/or not worth writing about. But this one was just too weird and funny to pass-up....
In my dream I was breaking into a hotel pool with my friend Shanna
(as seen below):
As we were breaking in, we heard a voice from behind us telling us that "we'd better not do that". For some odd reason the voice seemed to have a lot of reverb. Befuddled, we both turned turned to see............the "Purple One" himself standing there....yes, it was Prince.
Now that I think about it, I don't understand why he was at a low-class hotel when he could've been in a 5-star hotel. But in my dream it all made perfect sense. Prince was emitting purple light and fog in all directions. He said that breaking into a hotel pool was the sort of action that immature lovers and friends did together. He invited us to seek some "real thrills" with him....he wanted us to follow him down the path of intergallactic stellar-harmony and love. We didn't know what that meant, but we agreed anyways.
Come to find out, following Prince down the path of intergallactic stellar-harmony and love meant that we were going to hop in his purple '87 Datsun and go break into a music store. Prince's car was entirely pruple inside and out. And everytime you opened the doors, doves would fly out. The inside was all velvet. Prince didn't own a CD player though. We found out why a little later.
Once inside the music store, Prince was adamant that we take NO CD's, only records and tapes. He said that CD's were "digitally unclean" and that humanity must be purified of it's uncleanliness. Again, in dream-world this all made perfect sense.
Afterwards Shanna and I parted ways with Prince. She and I returned to the hotel, broke in the pool anyway and went swimming together.
Any "Joseph's" out there got any interpretations?
